Class III Malocclusion

Class III Malocclusion

Class III Malocclusion (prognathism or underbite) is the third type of dental malocclusion in which the lower front teeth protrude more than the upper front teeth due to a large mandible (lower jaw bone) or a shortened maxillary bone (upper jaw).

In Class III Malocclusion, according to the Angle Classification of Malocclusion, the patient's lower molars are placed forward to the upper molars.

Orthodontists correct this form of malocclusion to relieve the patient from difficulty or discomfort in chewing, speech impediments such as a lisp (in rare cases), and mouth breathing.
