Molar Positioning

Molar Positioning

After teeth are aligned horizontally in a smooth curve and vertically leveled, the orthodontist will tackle the orthodontic treatment phase for correcting molar position. The force of dental braces, namely the specifically placed brackets and wires, allows the orthodontist to align the molars in a suitable configuration over time.

The ideal molar positioning was established by Dr. Edward Angle. According to Angle's Classification of Malocclusion, Class I Malocclusion describes the condition in which a patient's bite (occlusion) is normal, but the teeth are overcrowded. Once an orthodontist has sorted out teeth crowding by alignment, he or she can move on to achieve the normal molar relationship of Class I.
